A Workshop on “ Quality Awareness on Cosmetics” for Cosmetic and Herbal Cosmetics Cluster at Vasai and Western Suburbs of Mumbai “ has been organized on 5.03.2008 at MSME Development Institute Kurla Andheri Road, Saki Naka, Mumbai. This Programmed was organized by the MSME-Development Institute, Ministry of MSME, Govt. of India, in association with All India Cosmetic Manufacturers Association Mumbai for the benefit of the Cosmetics and Herbal Cosmetics Manufacturing units in Cluster. The programme was started with an inaugural function at 2.00 p.m. dt. 5.3.2008. At he beginning, Shri Sanatan Sahoo, Asstt. Director & CDE (Cosmetics) delivered the welcome address and explain about the cluster profile and objective of the workshop. Shri M. B. Desai, General Manager (Operations) M/s. Hyegenic Research Institute, Mumbai delivered the Key Note Address, and briefed the significance of the cosmetic Industry and importance of this workshop for the quality improvement in Cosmetic sector. Shri G. M. Ambhore, Director, MSME-DI, Mumbai addressed in this occasion and suggested the cluster units to take full benefit of such programmes and Govt. of India Schemes for their development. The programme got inaugurated by Shri Satish Wagh, Chairman, CHEMEXCIL, Mumbai and he stressed the importance of quality Assurance in International Market. Other dignitaries present in the inaugural function were, Dr. N. H. Jain, Chairman, All India Cosmetic Manufacturers Association, Mrs. Kajol Anand, Vice Chairperson, AICMA, Mrs. Medha Chavan, Sr. Vice President, Dr(Smt.) Vijay Malik, Scientist- E, BIS, New Delhi. The inaugural function was concluded with a Vote of Thanks by Shri Milan Mehta, Secretary, AICMA.

The workshop was convened with the Chairmanship of Dr. S. G. Bhatt, Technical Expert and Consultant in Cosmetic Sector. The 1st session was delivered by Dr. Smt. Vijay Malik, Scientist–E, BIS, New Delhi on National and International standards of Cosmetics and Role of BIS. The 2nd session was delivered by Shri Ram Banarse, Asstt. Commissioner, FDA, Govt. of Maharshtra, Mumbai on Quality Awareness in Cosmetics – A regulatory perspective and GMP for cosmetic production. The 3rd Session was delivered by Shri Surendra Sahoo, An ISO-9000 consultant, on “Improve Quality Productivity and profitability through ISO 9000”.

More than 60 participants belonging to the cluster of cosmetics and Herbal Cosmetics Industries, BDS providers, Stake Holders and the representatives of All India Cosmetics Manufacturers Associations attended trhis programmed. The Workshop was concluded with summing up address by Dr. S.G.Bhatt, Chairman of technical session. At the end Shri Suhas Kulkarni, Director M/s Parijat Products proposed the vote of thanks.
